Everyone come on back to Houston.....You've just been PUNKED!!!!!!
just kidding! Leaving was definitely the right thing to do. We headed off Wednesday around 2:30pm with all of the things you think you need. We had everything we could fit into a blazer and 2 dogs. It took us six hours to get somewhere that should have taken less than an hour normally. We had plenty of gas but the car overheated. We got a jump, I had to pee in the bushes then we were off again.
We stayed at my friends very large home, but there were about 25 people there, with tons of dogs and kids and all that. It was very crowded, but there was lots of room. We stayed in the theater, me, my brother, hubby and some friends. We all had comfy recliners to sleep in and lots of snacks. We stayed there until Friday, it was CRAZY. We were really all tired of each other, but we just stayed up drinking and partying every night! Alot of the people there were from New Orleans, so they had already lost there homes and had lots of sympathy for us for what was about to happen!
By bedtime Wednesday night this storm had gotten up to 175 Mile an hour winds, 25-40 foot storm surge and was heading straight for us. I was having mild anxiety attacks and just knew there would be nothing left of our home OR business. That is a horrible feeling! But then the sun continued to shine and the storm made its way over to poor Louisiana. My mother, father, grandparents and sick uncle were in thepath of the harder hit areas. So I was worried about them. (they are fine...) We actually left the house and drove back home Friday night about 6pm to ride the storm out at home. It was SO MUCH FUN. Sorry to offend anyone who didn't find that to be the case, but we had a blast. We ran up and down the streets, i was pretending to be a newscaster...we were yelling obscenities like we had turret's.....all because there was not one person in our entire neighborhood. We played the music loud and acted completely retarded. We only got 2 inches of rain, and my street was the ONLY street in town that did not lose power. So we had a nice cool A/C all night!
Then one of our friends ended up with a really bad virus and was dehydrating and needed an ambulance. There was nothing we could do, no hospitals open for 60 miles and no EMS or 911 or anything! So I just held the bowl while he threw up and tried to keep pumping him full of water. That was really scary because we thought we were going to have to get out and drive in the storm. He was very sick all night, but he is recovering a little now.
So basically that is my Rita story. Nothing has been open still. We have found a small restaurant or two that would serve us. Hooters was only serving wings and burgers. But it was Something besides cheez-its, totino's and muffins! Emergency food sux. Starbucks opens up in the morning! I have not had a coffee in a week! This is pure drama for me.
Things are getting back to normal. Getting the stuff down from the attic and put back in its place. So thank goodness Rita spared us her wrath. We really really dodged a bullet on this one guys!!!!!
